Are the Authorities Doing Enough for BIM

BIM has been around for sometime and is hailed as the next thing for the CAD industry. The authorities major government related companies like BCA, HDB, Surbana have long supported the BIM move. It's been about a decade since BCA first mooted the idea of paperless drawing
submission via BIM. Several initiatives, grants and subsidies had been carried out to encourage the market to move to BIM. Currently, BCA is giving a one off SGD300 for every purchase of a BIM software (like Revit) upon completion of the software plus the e-plan-check training modules. Is that enough to move most companies to seriously move to BIM now? Give your take at the Singapore Revit User Group (http://groups.google.com/group/acarevitgroup/browse_frm/thread/3df7a6d837ecafb0/#)

Today @ 2.45pm, a twister like form was spotted from the ACA Pacific Riverwalk office. The "twister" seemed to be moving along East Coast beach, somewhere behind the Singapore Flyer. The whole event lasted about 10min before the "twsiter" moved out of vision.

Revit Architecture and AutoCAD Architecture have both receive full IFC 2x3 Certification by IAI

Autodesk Continues Commitment to Industry-Standard Data Exchange on Revit and AutoCAD Platforms.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., May 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK - News) today announced that Revit Architecture 2008, architectural software purpose-built for building information modeling (BIM), and AutoCAD Architecture 2008, software for architects based on the AutoCAD platform, have achieved full Industry Foundation Class (IFC) 2x3 certification at the IAI (Industry Alliance for Interoperability) workshop held this week. In this latest milestone in Autodesk's support for open data exchange mechanisms, both Revit Architecture and AutoCAD Architecture were fully certified for the IFC 2x3 standard. Full IFC 2x3 certification further supports the ability for architects and designers using Revit Architecture to exchange building data with other team members in the building design process, and will also enable compliance with U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) IFC delivery requirements.

Sustainable Construction

Sustainable Construction is the adoption of materials and products in building and construction that will reduce the depletion of natural resources and increase the reusability of such materials and products for the same or similar purpose, thereby reducing waste as well. Sustainable construction also enhances the resilience of the industry as such materials are readily available in the world market and are not vulnerable to restrictions. Steel, glass, other metals and prefabricated parts using combinations of these, as well as recyclable substitutes for concrete would qualify as sustainable materials and products.
