Copyright infringement: Gaming firm charged

Copyright infringement: Gaming firm charged

Wednesday • August 15, 2007

An international firm was yesterday charged in court for copyright infringement.

Boonty Asia, an Internet gaming and distribution company of digital products, was caught by the police earlier this year for using illegal software.

The court heard that the company allegedly infringed the copyright of computer software companies such as Adobe, Autodesk, Macromedia, Microsoft and Symantec.

In February, police raided its office in Orchard Towers and seized 22 desktops and notebook computers. Besides Singapore, the New York-based company also has offices in Paris, Seoul and Shanghai.

This is the first time a local company belonging to an international group has been charged with copyright infringement here.

Last year, a local interior design firm became the first company to be charged with the same offence. The company was fined $30,000.

The latest case has been adjourned and will be heard again on Sept 11.

If convicted, first time offenders may be fined up to $20,000 or jailed up to six months or both. — Channel NewsAsia

We Survived the Mizuno Wave Run 2007!!

AAAArrrrgghh!!! We were late and unexpectedly huge crowd turn-up made it even challenging for us to locate our already waiting SRUG members. Despite all the set backs, we managed to completed the 5km Fun Run while our boss Mark and partner Lawrence completed the 10km Competitive Run. It wasn't the best organized run despite having a well known brand like Mizuno as the main sponsor, nevertheless we still had a great run.

SRUG would like to thank the following members for their participation:
a) Mark Gill
b) Lawrence
c) Sarah
d) Lee Jia Wei
e) Suhaimi

SRUG @ Bintan - 7 Jul - 8 Jul 2007

SRUG @ Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. All ready to roll.

How did our veteran face the harsh water and long journey? Sleep through it!

We reached our destination with full of hope.

Like true Singaporeans and SRUG, we don't start anything on empty stomaches.

All geared for poll positions, just like Kimi.

Not enough land based adrenaline, we battle out at the sea.

After all the activities, relaxing on the beautiful sandy beach of Bintan. Aaah... that's life.

Are the Authorities Doing Enough for BIM

BIM has been around for sometime and is hailed as the next thing for the CAD industry. The authorities major government related companies like BCA, HDB, Surbana have long supported the BIM move. It's been about a decade since BCA first mooted the idea of paperless drawing
submission via BIM. Several initiatives, grants and subsidies had been carried out to encourage the market to move to BIM. Currently, BCA is giving a one off SGD300 for every purchase of a BIM software (like Revit) upon completion of the software plus the e-plan-check training modules. Is that enough to move most companies to seriously move to BIM now? Give your take at the Singapore Revit User Group (http://groups.google.com/group/acarevitgroup/browse_frm/thread/3df7a6d837ecafb0/#)

Was That a Twister that Passed by The Singapore Flyer?

Today @ 2.45pm, a twister like form was spotted from the ACA Pacific Riverwalk office. The "twister" seemed to be moving along East Coast beach, somewhere behind the Singapore Flyer. The whole event lasted about 10min before the "twsiter" moved out of vision.

Revit Architecture and AutoCAD Architecture have both receive full IFC 2x3 Certification by IAI

Autodesk Continues Commitment to Industry-Standard Data Exchange on Revit and AutoCAD Platforms.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., May 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK - News) today announced that Revit Architecture 2008, architectural software purpose-built for building information modeling (BIM), and AutoCAD Architecture 2008, software for architects based on the AutoCAD platform, have achieved full Industry Foundation Class (IFC) 2x3 certification at the IAI (Industry Alliance for Interoperability) workshop held this week. In this latest milestone in Autodesk's support for open data exchange mechanisms, both Revit Architecture and AutoCAD Architecture were fully certified for the IFC 2x3 standard. Full IFC 2x3 certification further supports the ability for architects and designers using Revit Architecture to exchange building data with other team members in the building design process, and will also enable compliance with U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) IFC delivery requirements.

Sustainable Construction

Sustainable Construction is the adoption of materials and products in building and construction that will reduce the depletion of natural resources and increase the reusability of such materials and products for the same or similar purpose, thereby reducing waste as well. Sustainable construction also enhances the resilience of the industry as such materials are readily available in the world market and are not vulnerable to restrictions. Steel, glass, other metals and prefabricated parts using combinations of these, as well as recyclable substitutes for concrete would qualify as sustainable materials and products.
